Artist Spotlight: Maiesha McQueen

We are very proud to present the queen, the one-and-only Maiesha McQueen for our spring Artist Spotlight with MARTA Artbound! McQueen is a much-adored mainstay of Atlanta’s stages, including a sensational performance in our 2016 production of Chasin’ Dem Blues. McQueen has received national acclaim for her role as Nurse Norma on the Broadway tour of the musical Waitress, to name just a few of her many accomplishments and accolades. Be sure to mark your calendar for a performance to remember!

The performance area is on the concourse level inside the fare gates. To enjoy the show, all you’ll need is your MARTA pass to enter the gates!

MARTA Artist Spotlight: Maiesha McQueen

About the Artist:

Maiesha McQueen is an award-winning, multi-faceted artist with proud Atlanta roots. She was most recently seen in Lambert-Smith Media’s successful run of FELA!, portraying the iconic Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti in her home town. Previously, she moved audiences in her Henry Award-winning portrayal of Celie in THE COLOR PURPLE at Denver Theatre Center, and performed in a sold-out run of COME FROM AWAY in Gander, Newfoundland.

Maiesha originated the role of Nurse Norma on the first national tour of WAITRESS the musical, and was honored to perform alongside stars such as Sara Bareilles and Jennifer Nettles in the Broadway revival production. Other notable productions include FANNIE, CLYDE’S, HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW, UNTIL THE FLOOD, CHASIN’ DEM BLUES, EAST TEXAS HOT LINKS, MAHALIA! (Suzie Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical), and AINT’ MISBHAVIN’, which was selected as a “New York Times Critics’ Pick” in 2022.

Maiesha founded and currently serves as Creative Director for the arts education program, A Bite Out of Broadway. She is also the executive director of The Lucy Project, a production company that seeks to create opportunities for Black women to develop new works.
