Tonight Only: August Wilson, Free and Open to the Public

I'm excited to catch you up on what has been going on at True Colors this past week but first you should know The August Wilson Monologue Competition finals are this evening at The Southwest Arts Center. It's free and open to the public- fifteen students from the Atlanta area will take part, the winner will move on to compete against the finalists from Pittsburgh and New York City high schools at the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway. Aside from supporting our local young people, this is a great opportunity to catch some of Atlanta's best actors recite August Wilson- from the likes of Bill Murphey (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom) to out of towner, Ellis Williams (Radio Golf). If you have never seen an August Wilson play, this will be a great introduction. Did I mention it's free?

Speaking of free- True Colors produces several free theatre events each year, look for the next one in April or May when we perform staged readings of a few plays we're thinking of producing next year. You can stay posted of these events by looking on our web page under Plays and Events or by reading this blog.

Tomorrow I'll give you a first glimpse into Kenny Leon's Our Town. See you tonight!
