In accordance with Broke-ology – the science of being broke - the King family has learned to balance sacrifice and let love keep them together. Dad remains in his home even as his health and his neighborhood are deteriorating. When the question is raised of how to take care of their ailing father, the two brothers find themselves strangely at odds. This comic drama encourages us to stay linked to our roots no matter where life takes us.

Design Team
André C. Allen (Lighting Design) is a native of Queens, New York and has been a lighting designer for 20 years. He attended Morehouse College where he founded Blacklight Productions Inc, a full service production design firm, in 1990. He has served the Atlanta arts community as Production Manager with the Rialto Center and Operations Manager with the Ferst Center. He has worked with critically acclaimed artists Savion Glover, Ravi Shankar, Twyla Tharp, Herbie Hancock and Yolanda Adams. André designed the True Colors premieres of Fences, The Wiz, Resurrection, Swimming Upstream, for colored girls and Our Town. “Gen. 1; 3”.
Shilla Benning (Costume Designer) Her work has been seen in the Alliance Theatre Company’s Shakespeare’s R & J, with True Colors Theatre Company in Steel Magnolias, Stick Fly, Black Nativity, Miss Evers Boys, The Amen Corner, and Blues For An Alabama Sky, at the Horizon Theatre in The Negro Dance Lesson, The Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage, Hambone, Homebody Kabul, The Drawer Boy and In Dafur. Musical Dramatic Arts in the world premier of I Dream. Shilla has also designed costumes for The Sounds of Blackness, Andre 3000, Bow Wow, Ciara, Erykah Badu, Tarij P.Henson and Terrence Howard. Ms. Benning’s film and television credits include “Dancing with the Stars”, One Missed Call, Zombieland, Daddy’s Little Girls, Madea Goes to Jail, Why Did I Get Married Too, The Family That Preys,”House of Payne”, “All Star Comedy Jam”, “The Vampire Dairies” and Footloose. Shilla is the recipient of the 2009 Suzi Award for Costume Design for Black Nativity.
Kat Conley (Set Designer) is ecstatic to be working with True Colors. Based in Atlanta since 2000, Kat has designed scenery for the Alliance Theatre, Georgia Shakespeare, Marin Theatre Company, the Atlanta Ballet, Actor’s Express, The Center for Puppetry Arts, 7 Stages, Theatrical Outfit, Theatre in the Square, The Springer Opera House, The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and the Aurora Theater. She is an Associate Artist with Georgia Shakespeare and Actor’s Express and the Charge Scenic Artist for the Alliance Theater. Whether dramatically challenging, visionary or escapist, all theater and art is important, thank you for supporting it in our community.
Todd Kreidler (Sound Designer) will direct this season’s production of Fool For Love. Mr. Kreidler is currently writing several musical theater projects including Holler If Ya Hear Me, an original musical featuring the lyrics and music of Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was dramaturg of Radio Golf and Gem of the Ocean on Broadway and worked with August Wilson for six years developing plays in regional theaters around the country. He directed and co-conceived Mr. Wilson’s one-man show How I Learned What I Learned and worked developing the screenplay adaptation of Fences. He was Associate Artistic Director of August Wilson’s 20th Century at the Kennedy Center where he directed Joe Turner’s Come And Gone and is co-founder of True Colors nationally growing August Wilson Monologue Competition for high school students.
